SUMMARY:WOW Book Club
DESCRIPTION:This month we will read “This Tender Land” by William Krueger. In the summer of 1932\, on the banks of Minnesota’s Gilead River\, the Lincoln Indian Training School is a pitiless place where Native American Children\, forcibly separated from their parents are sent to be educated.  It is also home to Odie O’Banion and his brother Albert who are orphaned and the only white faces at the school. After committing a terrible crime\, Odie and Albert are forced to flee with their best friend\, Mose\, a mute young man of Sioux heritage and a broken hearted girl named Emmy.  Together they steal a canoe in search of a place to call home.  These four vagabonds journey and cross paths with others who are adrift.  This Tender Land is a thralling\, bighearted epic that shows how the magnificent American landscape connects us all\, haunts our dreams and makes us whole. We always welcome new members!  Join every 4th Thursday of the month or only on occasion.  Food and drink can be purchased at the restaurant.  There’s always good fellowship. No RSVP needed\, but feel free to contact Sue at sue.siewert55@gmail.com or 414-813-0091. \n
